Some were received on evaluations returned by students at the end of algebra and geometry courses Mark Emerson has taught (after they received their final grades). Others were received in letters, including from parents of Mark’s students. (Note: most of these comments are from algebra and geometry classes Mark taught in private-school programs he created.)

We believe that we have learned more from Mr. Emerson than from any other teacher we have had thus far. Each class member has gotten a new, constructive outlook on education and study habits from Mr. Emerson’s class. My husband, an engineering graduate and former math teacher was really enthused that Mr. Emerson was able to introduce concepts with such clarity and concreteness. He was envious that he could not introduce such graphic and tangible models and examples when he was teaching. He said that Mark’s approach not only enabled students to understand the subject matter, but it was the approach used in engineering school for problem-solving: understand the question asked, envision a physical representation, and then set up the mathematical expression.
